HSBC announced on Monday that it has signed a multi-year partnership with French start-up Mistral AI to integrate advanced generative-AI tools across its global operations. The bank said the agreement is designed to accelerate automation, increase productivity, and improve the quality of client services.
Under the deal, HSBC will deploy Mistral’s commercial AI models and future upgrades on a self-hosted basis. This setup will combine HSBC’s internal technology capabilities with Mistral’s expertise in building high-performance AI models. The two organisations will work together to develop AI-driven solutions for financial analysis, multilingual translation, personalised customer communication, and risk assessment.
HSBC said the technology could sharply reduce the time employees spend on routine and document-heavy tasks. For example, credit and financing teams will be able to handle complex transactions and analyse detailed paperwork at a much faster pace.
